
Suresh Subramani, PhD
Suresh Subramani earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and joined the faculty at UC San Diego in 1982 after completing postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Paul Berg at Stanford University (1979-1981). He has been recognized with numerous honors and awards throughout his career and has held several key leadership roles in both academia and the biotechnology industry. At UC San Diego, his leadership positions have included serving as Executive Vice Chancellor (2010-2016), Associate Vice Chancellor (2009-2010), Interim Dean (2006-2007), and Chair of the Division of Biology (1999-2000). Currently, he is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus and the Global Director of the Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS) at UC San Diego and inStem in Bangalore, India. He also holds the Tata Chancellor’s Endowed Professorship in Molecular Biology at UC San Diego.
